Petzl and Its Products

Established in 1975 by a cave explorer called Fernand Petzl, Petzl is a company that manufacturers headlamps, work-at-height equipment, caving gear and climbing gear. Petzl has grown to be an international enterprise, producing more than 600 products. In 1977, the company manufactured its first vertical Petzl Harness. In the early Eighties, Petzl decided to expand the caving products it was selling and started producing other items such as rescue products and vertical sports, including mountaineering and climbing.

In 1981, the company produced ZOOM, which was its first brand name headlamp. Currently, it also produces ‘Petzl Nao + Headlamp’, a programmable ultra-powerful, multi-beam headlamp. This headlamp is rechargeable and features reactive lighting technology, allowing it to adapt the light intensity to your needs. The company produced its first work at height products in 1990. In 1991, ‘Petzl Grigri Belay Device’ was produced in the US. This self-braking device comes with an anti-panic handle and is designed for various single rope diameters. It has a wear plate, making the product ideal for intensive use, including at the crag and gym. In 2000, Petzl’s production started including ice climbing technology like its ‘Petzl Nomic Ice Tool’, ‘Petzl Quark Hammer and Adze Ice Tool’, or the crampons ‘Petzl Lynx’.
